We are currently working on a project where the couple did it right! They were wanting to sand and re-stain their hardwood floors and decided to make sure they thought through their whole space before doing anything.
They brought us in to get a design in place before they touched anything...that way the money they spent would fit into a larger design plan instead of locking them into a box that they wouldn't want in the long run.
Often times clients want to update their space so they start by changing one or two things before a plan is in place. Since every component in a space affects every other component, it is way better to take a step back and get a solid overall design in place before updating or changing anything. They could have re-stained their wood floors the exact same color to get them looking new again, but by waiting on the overall design we came up with a lighter more natural wood color that will change their space dramatically for the better. If they had gone ahead and done the floors before a design was in place that would have been money wasted or locked them into a design that wouldn't have been nearly as good.
The same goes for furniture. If you're wanting to replace your recliner or your sofa, we suggest you get a design in place before you change anything out. Once the design is in place, then you can move at your own pace to switch pieces out. You'll be much happier with the end result.
Good designs take every element in a space into consideration so it's better to not have a hodge podge of pieces that have to be incorporated.
Here is the space we are working on as it looks at the beginning.

And here is the 3d computer drawing of the design plan we're working toward.

By having the freedom to change out most of the elements in the space, we were able to come up with an exciting direction for them and change the space completely!
Now, it's time to implement the design!
