Painting Clean Stripes!

Hey, Everybody!  Stripes can sure make a big impact in a space!  What happens when we have white walls is that sometimes we end up cluttering them with "stuff" in order to make the space feel warm and inviting.  I think most of us long for really cozy homes, but with minimal clutter...even decor-wise...so paint color can be your solution.

In this room, we wanted to use a different "accent color" but not a whole wall of it...so enters the horizontal band idea...we measured it out based on where to hang the 48 x 36 canvas art piece...then we were ready to paint.

Using the right TAPE is huge...it has to be very adhesive to not leak under the edge...I choose to use manilla colored painters tape for my striping...it's sticky enough, but not so much that it pulls off paint from underneath.  So if you're lucky, you'll have a laser tool that can shoot a straight line for you like we do...it's AWESOME and saves time and my mood!  LOL...seal the edge of the painters tape where the other color will be meeting it very well with your fingers.  Then (pay attention here) paint the same color of paint over the tape's edge.  Here I did blue over blue...that way if any paint leaks under, it's the right color.  I've used caulk before but this actually is easier and works better...so it's my choice for sure!  Let the coat of paint dry...you can see what this looks like in picture 2.

When you're ready for the top color (moss green in this case) then paint over the edge of the painted tape line...I like to pull off the tape after I've painted the 2nd coat...so when the paint has adequate coverage, but is still wet.  (other painters may disagree, but it works great for me!)  So, then it reveals PERFECT and clean lines and I am so happy!!  See picture 3...

Any time I'm doing wall corners where 2 colors are meeting, I do the same thing...it's time consuming, but it works like a charm...

This is how all the laboring turned out...pretty cool in this space!!  Well, Happy Stripe Painting, Friends!!  If you have any questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them... Kim ; )
